To become my friend in the project you can 'donate' me a song, which you think in some ways represents your nation/country, it can be anything, except national anthem. For example I choose the song for Estonia. It is an old folk song, which we learnt probably in a first year at school and it talks about a young farm girl and how she becomes a good 'woman', who is good in a kitchen and with knitting and other womanly works. Everyone in my generation learnt that song, it is simple, but at the same time very significant in a way how it 'prepared' small girls to become 'proper' women. Most Estonians know that song, even so that they would not necessarily agree that this is representative of Estonian nation. For me it is. So my choice is very personal. The songs donated so far are very differnt. The song donated by an australian friend is a vegimite song from an advert, song from Bulgaria is childrens song, which talks about a white rabbit, Turkish song is quite patriotic, Hungarian is a folk song, but Italian for example is rather strange pop-song from 1980s and so on. Those are just some examples, so the actual type of song is not important, personal relationship with the song and the reasoning, why you think that song should represent your nation/country is what makes an interesting reading. And also hopefully will make you to think differntly about your own identity and belonging. What happens to the songs after you donate it? I have to learn to sing it and that in a language I do not speak, so hopefully it sounds really funny but is still understandable. You can donate in many forms, either by singing yourself or taking a soundtrack from cd or finding a soundfile on the web and send me the file. If your country/nation is already present in my project you can still become a friend and send me another song or write another supporting your personal story to the song, which I will then add to the project. When you donate the song I also need the words in an e-mail and if possible written in a way how to pronounce them. In addition to the song you should send me a little story, why this song should represent your country/nation. The texts will become part of the project and all song donors will become collaborators and their names will be added to the list, unless you want to be anonymous.
